Learning about music cognition

Justin and I started this blog primarily to learn more about music cognition.  Occasionally, life events have prevented us from posting regularly, but our mutual desire to learn more hasn’t waned.  In light of that, we were delighted to find the Music Cognition Syllabi posted on the website for the Society for Music Perception and Cognition.  What do college professors teach as the seminal research in music cognition, the research every student should know about to get a good foundation in the subject?  This research is listed in the syllabi.  Although we’ve primarily concentrated on posting newer articles, we will soon start posting more about this foundational research, starting with the articles which were cited by more than one instructor.

This should be fun!

Good stuff! That will be a good resource for me, as well.

Hey, did you see the latest items on Vicky’s and Parker’s blogs? They discuss related research that is quite interesting (and I tried to combine them: http://bit.ly/mx8RIH).

    • Thanks, Luc, for the link. I’ve been a little obsessed with gathering the articles in those syllabi. A lot of them have full text PDFs which I’ve included where they’re available. I still have many more to find, but if you want to take a look, they’re in citeulike at this address: http://www.citeulike.org/user/jude2004 They’re tagged with the instructor/institution.
